Elephant Garlic is actually part of the leek family growing very large cloves that are easy to peel and said to have milder flavour. New Zealand grown.
While garlic was traditionally planted on the shortest day with the prevalence of rust it's now suggested planting any time from now so the majority of growth is in the cooler parts of the year. Garlic like lots of food, sun and no competition from weeds or other plants.
